Thursday, September 24th, Setting up the really big show.

I don't think I would have been worth much today for the show set up had my schedule not changed this week. I got to the fairgrounds at 9 a.m. to turn in my quilts, bring in all of the items for the boutique and various ladders, step ladders, sheets hammers, et al that were needed for set up.
The giant room, which is about the size of two football fields (of which we used only half) started like this:The intake of the quilts was well planned. They had divided the quilts into categories and they were sorted onto sheets on the floor.
Then the two people who had planned the grid marked the floor with a chalk line and placed painter's tape where the stands were to be. The stands were placed accordingly.
Teams of 3-4 people picked a finished category and pulled them on the sheets to their
proper location. That is why it was so important to have the quilts labeled and folded to minimize handling.
Two people got on ladders or step stools on either side of the conduit, threaded the quilt onto the pole and then carefully threaded it onto canvas loops on the stands. All the while protecting the quilt from hitting the floor, which was no easy task with some of the 10 footers.
Because Deb and I were the tallest ones there, we volunteered to get up on the ladders for the really long ones. That night, I felt like I had been lifting weights, my arms were so tired.
Hanging 320 quilts is not an easy job, but what a great group of volunteers who would do anything to get the job done.

The finished look, which was absolutely amazing. I left when all the quilts were hung, which was about 4:45, and it was totally finished by 6.
In addition, I helped with boutique set up. However, my heavy labor went into quilt hanging.
The little lady on the right is our quilt show chair, Jean Rock. What a dynamo!!!Thankfully, I kept a smile on my face all day, but hit the bed at around 9:30!
